LaDainian “LT” Tomlinson retires

You have to be a special player for people to call you LT. Everybody knows who the original LT is but LaDainian Tomlinson  was just that good where he couldn’t be denied the nickname.

On Monday June 18th, 2012 LT signed a one day contract to retire as a Charger. Which from the outside looking in is a classy move by both parties.

Tomlinson was the 5th pick in the 2001 draft (Man I’m getting old but that’s besides the point) he and Drew Brees(picked in the 2nd rd) were picked in the same draft by the Chargers give that organization some props folks. I got a little off track but LT helped change the Chargers from a yearly doormat(blame Ryan “I’m in jail” Leaf) to an instant threat. Coming from TCU LT had haters because of the level of competition he faced on a week in and week out basis. Boy did he prove the haters wrong, he ran all the way to a hall of fame career. If LT doesn’t make first ballot then something is mentally wrong with the voters(no disrespect to anybody with a disability).

LT played 11 years (9 Chargers and 2 Jets), it’s easy to see he put in most of his work with the Chargers pretty much the face of the franchise for a solid 6 years of his stay. LT was a 5x pro bowler, 3x All Pro, 1x MVP and Walter Payton Man of the Year. He finished with 13,684 rushing yards which places him 5th all time, 145 rushing td’s with places him 2nd all time and 162 total td’s which places him 3rd on that list.

Man it’s crazy with all of the players I grew up watching starting to hang em up. I still remember when LT had a game where he ran, threw and caught a td in the same game. In my opinion a top 5 running back and I base my ranking on backs that I got to see during my lifetime.(My folks who got to see Payton and Brown run live don’t kill me) We here at The Front Office want to say enjoy your retirement LT, we appreciate the work you put in on the field.

  1. I’m getting old too. Remember the Chargers dealt the #1 overall pick to the Falcons for the #5 and SD’s #1 (33 overall) in round 2? Remember who that pick was? Drew Brees. I’d say that was an awesome trade for both teams. As a tribute to LT I used the Jets on Madden yesterday. A class act an awesome player. Gonna miss the visor!
