Front Office weekly rundown 6/22/12

Thanks for checking out this week’s edition of the weekly rundown. There has been some headlines this week, some or more shocking than others. Feel free to check out some of the important headlines this week.

NBA

We had a random before the playoffs are over trade as the Washington Wizards traded Rashard Lewis and the 46th pick of the 2012 draft to the New Orleans Hornets for Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor. The Hornets received a lot of financial flexibility with this move.

The Orlando Magic hire Rob Hennigan as their new General Manager. Hennigan spent the last 8 seasons with the Thunder and Spurs (4 years a piece). Hennigan was the assistant GM for the Thunder the last two seasons.

The Charlotte Bobcats hire Mike Dunlap as their new head coach. Dunlap was the assistant head coach at St. John’s. Good luck to you, you have just been handed the worst team in the NBA if you can help turn them around you will become a legend.

The Miami Heat are the 2011-12 NBA Champions. LeBron and Bosh got their first one . Wade got his second ship.

NFL

Defensive Tackle Marcus Stroud signed a one day contract to retire with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Stroud played 10 years (7 with the Jaguars and 3 with the Bills). He made 3 pro bowls while with the Jags. Stroud was the 13th pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. This retirement might go slide under the radar because LT retired earlier in the week but we at the Front Office would like to say enjoy your retirement Mr. Stroud.

The Tennessee Titans broke bread with Safety Michael Griffin with a 5 year 35 million dollar contract, 15 million is guaranteed to Mr. Griffin.

Minnesota Vikings receiver Percy Harvin wants to be traded. He is scheduled to make 915k this year which is a lot less than other receivers on the team. Mr. Harvin wants to be paid point-blank will the Vikings take care of him or will they have to ship him off is the question.

NCAA

It is possible the BCS will turn into a 4 team playoff in the 2014 season. This may be the first step to getting a playoff system set up for college football. June 26th BCS presidential oversight committee will meet to see if they are going to approve it.

MLB

Roy Oswalt will make his big league debut with the Texas Rangers on Friday. Hopefully he can pitch like his normal self if so the Rangers might have made the steal of the season with this signing.

Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy will undergo Tommy John surgery. Recovery time is normally around 12-18 months.

Colorado Rockies star SS Troy Tulowitzki will undergo groin surgery. At this time nobody has a time frame on how long Tulowitzki will be out.

BOXING

The WBO scored the Pacquiao-Bradley fight all scoring it for Pacquiao. It means nothing because it doesn’t change the official decision. So at the end of the day what was the purpose? The WBO may force a rematch but everyone already knows a rematch is already in the making. C’mon Boxing we have to do better.

Thanks for checking out this week’s rundown. Everybody be cool, until next week, PEACE!
