Front Office weekly rundown 6/29/12

We are back for another weekly rundown, how has everybody’s week been? ……. This week we have a small surprise we actually documented a few Hockey transactions. Baseball and Basketball had a busy week check out the transactions we thought were important.

NBA

Larry Bird steps down as the Indiana Pacers president of basketball operations. Bird is fresh off of winning the executive of the year. Donnie Walsh will take over his job.

The NBA awarded the Celtics the Thunders 2nd round pick of the 2013 draft because of information withheld about Jeff Green’s trade during the 2011 season. Green had heart surgery so if the Thunder knew about that they should have at least informed Jeff, I hope they did.

The Bucks received Dalembert, the 14th overall pick in Thursday’s draft, a future second round pick and cash considerations from Houston in exchange for forwards Jon Brockman and Jon Leuer, guard Shaun Livingston and the 12th pick. The Rockets have been making moves all week I don’t think their front office is done, keep your eye on them.

The Pistons trade guard Ben Gordon and a lottery protected 2013 1st rd pick to the Bobcats for forward Corey Maggette. This is a very layered deal, in 2014 the pick is protected up the 8th pick and in 2015 the pick is protected up to the 1st pick. This move was a salary dump for the Pistons as the Bobcats are on the hook for the last two years of the 25.6 million still owed to Ben but he provides a scorer which they don’t have many down in NC. Maggette is in the last year of his contract so the Pistons will have a lot more freedom in the upcoming years.

The Timberwolved traded the 18th pick in the 2012 NBA draft to the Rockets for Chase Budinger and the draft rights to Lior Eliyahu.

Knicks Amare Stoudemire was fined 50k by the NBA for saying a gay slur to a fan on Twitter. Amare has apologized to the fan but it was too little too late because little man Stern already caught em.

Dwyane Wade won’t be able to play in the Olympics because he has to get surgery on his knee. It was the same knee that was bothering him the whole playoffs.

NCAA

The 4 team playoff has been approved it will start during the 2014 season. I step in the right direction, this particular playoff will be locked in for 12 years.

MLB

49 year old P Jamie Moyer signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays. Moyer is the oldest starter to ever record a win, which he did earlier this year with the Rockies.

The Dodgers sign 21-year-old Cuban outfielder Yasiel Puig to a 7 year 42 million dollar deal. Magic in the gang are handing out contract aren’t they? Let’s just hope the kid is really 21.

The Red Sox traded IF Kevin Youkilis to the White Sox for UT Brent Lillibridge and RH Zach Stewart. The Red Sox will absorb 2 million dollars of the 7.8 million still owed to Youkilis.

Red Sox outfielder Marlon Byrd was suspended 50 games for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.

Yankees P CC Sabathia was placed on the 15 day DL because of a muscle strain in his leg.

Yankees P Andy Pettitte was placed on the 60 day DL because of a fractured left fibula after being hit by a pitch. Pettitte won’t be eligible to come off the of the DL until the August 28th. Being a Yankees pitcher this year is tough.

NHL

Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick gets a 10 year 58 million dollar deal.

Penguins Sidney Crosby received a 12 year 104.8 million dollar deal. Sid the Kid getting paid getting paid.

Thanks for checking out this weeks rundown. We will be back next we until then, PEACE!
