Front Office weekly rundown 7/6/12

Welcome back to the weekly rundown everybody. To say the least this week has been all about NBA free agency. Free agents can’t technically sign until the 11th which is next thursday (which happens to be my birthday) but teams and players have not wasted time to make new alliances or shore up old ones.

NFL

Drew Brees won his grievance case against the New Orleans Saints. If the Saints don’t reach a long-term deal with Brees they can’t franchise tag him again after the 2013 season. Brees has been currently tagged by the Saints. Players can only be tagged three times in their career no matter what team you play for. Brees was tagged by the Chargers before he came to the Saints.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Eric Wright was arrested with a DUI charge in LA. They say he caused a wreck close to the Staples Center. Eazy E might need to get a driver so he can just sit back in chill. We all know if found guilty “Ironfist” Roger will strike with great vengeance.

MLB

St. Louis Cardinals P Chris Carpenter will have season ending surgery to repair the nerve issue in his shoulder. Carpenter is 37 years of age has been one of the dominate pitchers of his era. The surgery is not a guarantee to fix this problem. It will consist of removing one rib, connecting muscles and repairing scar tissue. We wish him a speedy even though he plays for the Cardinals. lol

NBA

Jason Kidd opted to join the Knicks after reports stated he was close to resigning with the Mavs. Kidd got a 3 year deal worth around 9 million dollars. The 39-year-old guard is still solid, word on the street is the Knicks plan on resigning Lin also.

George Hill will be resigned by the Pacers to a 5 year deal terms haven’t been disclosed yet.

Jameer Nelson will resign with the Magic for 3 years terms haven’t been disclosed yet. I guess Orlando said f*** getting a new point guard huh?

Steve Nash will take his talents to Los Angeles. Everybody was shocked about this one the 38-year-old guard will go to the Lakers via sign and trade. The Suns will receive two 1st rd picks(13)(15) and two 2nd rd picks (13)(14). Nash signed a 3 year deal worth around 27 million. Nash is up in age but I can’t wait to see how he helps the Lakers offense next season.

Deron Williams is staying a Net. Williams signed a 5 year 98 million deal to stay the face of the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets gamble payed off.

Jamal Crawford signed with the Clippers for 4 years for around 24 million. Crawford will either be the starting two guard or the sixth man.

Chauncey Billups resigned with the Clippers for 1 year at around 4.3 million. Billups is coming off of a season ending injury.

Houston Rockets guard Kyle Lowry has been traded to the Raptors for a future protected 1st rd pick and Gary Forbes. The Rockets gave up Lowry for pennies huh?

Jeremy Lin will sign a 4 year 30 million dollar offer sheet with the Rockets. The Knicks will be able to match. Should they? If I’m the Knicks I wouldn’t touch that deal but I’m just a blogger what do I know?

Omer Asik was offered 3 year 25.1 million dollar deal that is back loaded just like the Lin deal from the Rockets. Will the Bulls match? I know I wouldn’t but I won’t repeat myself.

Kevin Garnett resigned with the Celtics. KG signed a 3 year deal worth up to 34 million dollars.

The Celtics also resigned Brandon Bass.

Phoenix signs Michael Beasley to a 3 year deal at 18 million. Beasley was the 2nd pick in the D. Rose draft hopefully he can flourish in Phoenix.

Phoenix also signed guard Goran Dragic at 4 years 34 million. This is Dragic’s second stint with the Suns. With no Nash in the fold Dragic will have the keys to the whip.

Phoenix offered Hornets guard Eric Gordon a max offer sheet. The deal on the table is 4 years at 58 million. Gordon wants to play for the Suns but we all would be very shocked if the Hornets didn’t match. All I have to say is the Hornets didn’t trade CP3 for nothing right?

The Nets traded for “Iso” Joe Johnson and his max contract. The Hawks received Jordan Farmar, Johan Petro, Anthony Morrow, Jordan Williams, DeShawn Stevenson (sign and trade) and a future 1st rd pick (lottery protected). This trade helped both teams. It showed D Will the Nets were serious about winning and the Hawks unloaded a lot of financial strain by taking back a lot of expiring contracts.

Gerald Wallace signed a 4 year 4o million dollar deal with the Nets. Crash has re landed in Brooklyn.

Landry Fields will sign an offer sheet with the Raptors. The deal on the table is 3 years 20 million dollars. The Knicks will likely not match.

The Hawks traded Marvin Williams to the Jazz for Devin Harris. Harris has an expiring deal so much props to Danny Ferry to make that move. Maybe Marvin can blow up in Utah? The Hawks cut more salary within a week of “Whoodini” Ferry being hired.

The Portland Trail Blazers signed Roy Hibbert to a max offer sheet at 4 years 58 million. The Pacers are on the fence about matching that offer. Keep your eye on this one folks. It pays to be a decent 7 footer doesn’t it?

The Clippers received Lamar Odom, Jazz received Mo Williams and the Mavs  got the Jazz trade exception. Both players returned to their former teams.

Brandon Roy comes out of his one year retirement to sign with the Timberwolves. Roy agreed to a two year deal worth up 10.4 million. I hope Roy got that Kobe surgery on his knees. I hope he still can ball Roy was one of my favorite players before he retired.

Nicolas Batum will sign an offer sheet with the Timberwolves. The sheet is 4 years worth anywhere between 45 to 50 million dollars. The Blazers may match or they could do a sign and trade. My one question is Batum worth that much?

Jason “JET” Terry will sign a 3 year 15 million dollar contract with the Celtics. Does this mean the end for Ray Allen in Beantown?

Thanks for checking out this weeks rundown. This was pretty much the NBA rundown free agency just started so I’m banking on the next few weeks to have a lot of transactions. There were so many transactions sorry if I missed any important ones. I’m out until next week, PEACE!
