Is Floyd Mayweather The G.O.A.T.?

With this past weekends total domination of Canelo Alvarez where does “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather rank on the all-time greatest fighters list?

When this question is often posed I tend to think of the usual names mostly heavyweight. Ali, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Jack Dempsey, Mike Tyson, George Foreman are just a few of the heavyweights. Some fighters from other weight classes that are on that list are Sugar Ray Robinson, Roy Jones Jr., Bernard Hopkins and Pernell Whitaker. Mayweather has everything a great fighter needs. He has power, speed quickness, impenetrable defense and a perfect unblemished record of 45-0 with 26 KO‘s.

He also has charisma and the ability to sell his self, with an estimated 80 million dollars made from this weekend alone. He has expanded his brand (TMT) unlike any other man in his sport ever, literally nicknaming himself “money.” In the words of Young Jeezy “he hustle harder, he hustle smarter.” The only knock on him is the era he is fighting in and his competition.

His greatness shouldn’t be discredited because of how easy he makes it look. Is Lebron’s greatness lessened because he never faced Jordan, Magic or Bird? You compete against the best in your class and Floyd has beaten them all. He has rubbed people in the business the wrong way with his brash and flashy lifestyle but that’s just his personality.

Judging from his past fight he shows no signs of slowing down even at age 36. He can be described as a “technician” in the ring and his best attribute is probably his ability to improvise and switch his style up on the spot. This is not an easy feat as many fighters train months specifically for an opponents individuals fighting style.

Still climbing up the ladder of greatness I feel that his skill and fundamentals are unmatched and he deserves a top ten bid at the moment with time to add to his ranking.

  1. Yeah Floyd is top 10 no matter how you cut it, everyone he fights at least the last 8 years or so he has made look like an up and comer besides an elite boxer, Cotto gave him his best fight in recent years. I hope they don’t set Garcia up next it would get Master P sneaker ugly
