The Dayton Flyers are busting up brackets

UDAs a Dayton native I want to say I’ve never seen the Flyers make the Sweet 16. I know people who follow bigger programs might laugh because the City of Dayton is excited about making the Sweet 16, but when a team over achieves you have to live in the moment and celebrate.

The Flyers haven’t made it this far in 30 years. That’s a long time.

I remember talking to my homie Chuck telling him UD had a shot to make the tourney a few weeks out and that they just had to beat St. Louis on the road, which happened. I knew they would give Ohio State a tough game because their styles fit each other, but even after picking the Flyers to win I didn’t have them going further. They beat OSU and ‘Cuse back to back. ‘Cuse the three seed  in the South region is known for its 2-3 zone and UD was able to handle it and move on.

The best thing about seeing the Flyers win even thought my bracket was screwed in that section of the South is seeing the joy in the pictures on UD’s campus. The students, locals and even the school president were turnt up all night.

UD1The Flyers winning has been deeper than basketball for a City that has needed a win or two.

Shout out to the Flyers for getting a few wins. Coach Miller salute. Oliver, Pierre, Sibert, Smith, Sanford and the  boys keep ballin’.
