Supporting Jim Kelly During his Battle with Cancer

 prayers-for-jk-3

During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s there were a plethora of Quarterbacks in the NFL that changed the culture of the league. Fans normally hear the names of Joe Montana, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Warren Moon, and Dan Marino, but I think that Jim Kelly is often lost in the shuffle.

The Hall of Fame Quarterback from the “U”started off in the defunct USFL, and ended his illustrious career with the Buffalo Bills. While in the NFL Kelly’s Bills were arguably the second best team in the 1990’s, but they failed to win a Super Bowl after four attempts.

Not winning a Super Bowl would have put a dark cloud over anybody, but that can’t be said for Jim Kelly. Even though he didn’t win a Super Bowl, Kelly helped changed the culture of football in Buffalo. Since his departure from the team the organization has not been the same.

NFL teams around the league are playing the same style of offense that was adopted by Jim Kelly. Twenty years ago Buffalo called it the “K-Gun”, and now everyone calls it the hurry up or spread offense. Jim Kelly’s accolades on the field are second to none, and it seems like Jim Kelly the person is even better than Jim Kelly the quarterback, which says a lot.

Kelly’s teammates and family embrace him like no other, and with recent news of his cancer battle and the support that he has received shows the role he played on individuals outside of football.

Jim Kelly is battling a second recurrence of oral cancer. News broke that Kelly’s cancer is pretty aggressive, but in recent news his wife stated that the Cancer is curable, and will not need any surgery as of now (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/surgery-hall-famer-jim-kelly-cancer-fight-article-1.1735783).

It sucks to see anyone go through cancer, and I hope for the best for Kelly and his family. Cancer Sucks! #PrayersforJK
