Kyle “Not Mike” Lowry and Demar DeRozan have put the NBA on notice as being one of the best starting backcourts in basketball. Lowry showed a knack for hitting big shots and getting to the lane, minus the last play of game seven, but also the spacing looked horrible. DeRozan showed that he may be a “star in the making” up in T Dot he was able to do a lot of positive things, showed off an improved jumper and was able to create space off the dribble to get his shot off. DeRozan will have to improve his defense after getting worked by “Iso” Joe Johnson, but what young player doesn’t have to improve on this aspect of their game.

Lowry averaged 21.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game during the series. So basically 21, 5 and 5, I know we would like to see the assists totals go up, but during the season Lowry is normally in around the 7-8 per game range. During the series Lowry showed that he was the emotional leader of the team also, which is a valuable intangible.

DeRozan averaged 23.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game during the series. He is showing a growing game that can have an effect on the court no matter what side of the ball he’s on.  After the last two seasons and his playoff performance Mr. DeRozan is in line to get cashed out sooner than later.

The Raptors have a nice young team and they are spearheaded by one of better backcourts in basketball. The fans in Toronto have a lot to cheer about and that fans outside of Toronto should be paying attention to. There is a competitive basketball team over in Canada folks.
