Jamaal Charles knew he held the big joker

If you ever played spades you know if you hold the “big joker” you can wreak shit at the end. It’s kind of like of having the emergency button to deactivate or active a bomb. The “big joker” guarantees a book no matter what; you just have to make sure you don’t bump heads with your partner. That card is what makes everyone weary at the table and that is the card Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles played with his two day holdout.

Kansas City Chiefs v Oakland RaidersIf anybody watched the Chiefs last season, they saw with their own eyes that Charles was the engine that made the car run. Almost every positive play came from the running back via running or receiving. Charles led the team in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. With that being said, “Dwayne Bowe you need to step it up in 2014 homie.”

With two years left on his five year $32.5 million contract left, Charles held out for two days and got a two year $18.1 million extension, raising his 2014 salary from $3.9 million to $8.3 million making him the second highest paid back behind Adrian Peterson.

The Chiefs knew life without Charles wouldn’t be smart. So they didn’t waste any time making their star happy which was smart. Imagine the Chiefs without Charles; it would be like the Cavs without LeBron (while he was in South Beach). You have to know when to hold em’ and when to fold em’ and Charles and his agent played it perfect to get more money. It’s a tough market for running backs so you have to take advantage when at all possible.

The “big joker” held its weight now everyone is happy Charles and his team won the set.
