Tragedy

Saturday at Canandaigua Motor Sports Park a young man by the name of Kevin Ward Jr. was struck and killed on the track by driver Tony Stewart.  Still viral and even on You tube Ward can be seen exiting his car and appearing to be upset even pointing at Stewart.  At least few cars can be seen missing and swerving around Ward while he’s walking to the middle of the track.  Even and I’ll be the first to admit I’m no expert on this but, to the untrained eye it looks like Stewart purposely runs into 20 year old Ward.  His body is seen being dragged a long distance on the track by the sprint cup drivers right rear tire.  We have seen this before, but after the feeling of disbelief my next thoughts were why did he leave his car and walk onto the busy track?  Sadly again this isn’t the first time we’ve seen drivers pull this dangerous stunt.

In the days that followed we now have a small town mourning over the loss of a son and friend, and a driver with more than a few dust ups in his past to answer for what went on that night.  The father of Ward has since come forward accusing Tony of killing his son whether he purposely meant to just scare him or not is to be debated.  Nascar hasn’t come forward and said much of anything yet, but the question does raise will any charges be brought against Stewart?  Can he be charged?  Will Nascar implement preventative rules for the future?  I’m not quite sure what direction the sport goes from here.
