Mickey Mitchell Will Not Attend Ohio State

All-everything swingman Mickey Mitchell broke the hearts of Ohio State Buckeye basketball fans after he recently de-committed his verbal agreement to play basketball at the university. As heartbreaking it may be,  it wasn’t a surprise to see Mitchell make his decision after his older Michael Mitchell (former OSU football player) left for Texas Tech for wanting to be close to his family located in Lubbock, Texas.  The same could be said for his brother Mickey, but he will have ample opportunities to play at just about any university he decides to go to.

In Mickey Mitchell, head coach Thad Matta loses a versatile defender and an offensive juggernaut with the ball.  Mitchell was expected to help headline the 2015 class that will also feature A.J. Harris and Austin Grandstaff.  This situation takes me back to 2007 where then big-time recruit Luke Babbitt ditched the Buckeyes and took his talents Nevada. At the time it seemed like a crushing blow, but the Buckeyes were able to recover.

The Buckeyes will find another quality recruit, but it hurts to see a guy of Mitchell’s stature change his mind. It is undecided where Mitchell will land, but some coach around the country will get a great player, and even better person.  Best wishes to Mickey Mitchell in selecting his next school. Let’s just hope his next school isn’t in the Big Ten.
