Can San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick Emerge as a MVP Candidate?

The San Francisco 49ers and Colin Kaepernick have faced their fair share of struggles this preseason, but the outlook should remain positive. QB Colin Kaepernick is entering his second full year as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. It may seem a bit premature, but I feel that Kaepernick can emerge into a MVP candidate.
Kaepernick may only be entering his second full year as a starter, but he has played a lot of meaningful football games in his short career.

With Kap as the signal caller, the 49ers have gone deep into the playoffs only losing on the final play in Super Bowl XLVII and losing the NFC Championship in the last seconds of the of the 2013 season. With a sour way to end in his last two seasons, I expect Kaepernick to be hungrier than ever. Experience is always the best teacher, and with him gaining another year under center he has total command of the offense. Head coach Jim Harbaugh and Offensive coordinator Greg Roman can finally hand the keys to Kaepernick without any worries.

Kap may have led the 49ers deep into the playoffs the past two seasons, there were times when Roman had to hold Kaepernick back a bit due to a few of his discrepancies as a passer. Despite the potential that he has flashed, the 49ers still relied heavily on the running game and defense. That strategy worked well, but now it’s time to let Kap loose.

During preseason, minicamp and OTAs, Kaepernick has taken everyone by storm, and is looking like he can be the next great San Franciso 49ers quarterback. The main attribute that has stuck out– has been Kap’s leadership. Being a leader of a veteran football team is tough, but if anyone can rise to the challenge, it’s Kap.

The 49ers system will never allow Kaepernick to have 50 passing touchdowns a la Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, but he is capable of producing some insane numbers. With the ability to dominate as a runner and passer, Kaepernick will have ample opportunities to take his game to a new level.

This is the first season where he has depth at every position on the offensive side of the ball, and more importantly everyone is healthy at this time. The 49ers may play in the brutal NFC West, but it is still not a stretch to think that the 49ers could have the best offense in the NFL. It will be very tough to stop Michael Crabtree, Frank Gore, Stevie Johnson, Anquan Boldin , Carlos Hyde and Vernon Davis. With players of that stature, it is impossible to just focus on one player, and that will make life easier on Kap.

The 49ers haven’t had a legitimate MVP candidate since the glory days of Steve Young, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice, but I believe that can come to an end this season. Kaepernick will look to prove that he is worth his hefty contract, and he will also use all of the past year’s failures as motivation.
QB Colin Kaepernick is entering his second full year as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. It may seem a bit premature, but I feel that Kaepernick can emerge into a MVP candidate.

It may be early to jump to the conclusion that Kaepernick will be an MVP candidate, but with the talent that the 49ers have, it will give Kap every opportunity to be one of the best players in the game.
