Syracuse taking the easy way out?

On Wednesday we got news the Syracuse Orange Men’s Basketball team placed a self-imposed post season ban for the 2014-15 season. The Cuse find themselves in this position because of academic problems a few years back.

Former players Fab Melo and James Southerland had academic issues during the 2012-13 season which has reared its ugly head back again. Melo missed the Big East and NCAA tournament because of the problem and Southerland missed 6 games earlier that season because of the same problems. The 2012-13 team made it all the way to the Final Four.

Now let’s fast forward to the present Jimmy B. and crew have self-imposed a post season ban while it is smart to get ahead of the NCAA, I commend them for that, but at the same time this team is one of the weaker ‘Cuse teams we have seen in years. If you don’t believe me just check out their 15-7 record and 6-3 in conference which is good for 6th place in the ACC out of 15 teams, now we know that the ‘Cuse are known to be amongst the league leaders no matter if it was the Big East or the ACC.

Hindsight 20/20 it sucks they are getting in trouble for Melo and Southerland, but we also know the ‘Cuse are trying to get over since this team is on the bubble and not a real threat for a deep run in this year’s tournament. Hey, NCAA punish the ‘Cuse for another year because the NIT isn’t the Oranges’ goal if you follow me.

Will the NCAA let the Jedi mind trick work? Only time will tell!
