Cincinnati Wide Receiver is Ready for the Record Books

Cincinnati wide receiver Shaq Washington has a chance to move up in the Bearcats record book during his senior season. When Oh Varsity! tweeted out Shaq Washington needs 55 receptions to become number one all time on the Bearcats receptions list (visible below), it made me think. I personally didn’t realize that Washington was that high on the list.

Shaq Washington is 54 receptions short of the UC career record shared by Gilyard, Goodman, and LaDaris Vann. Had 66 last year, 78 in 2013.

The Bearcats have had some very good receivers over the last 15 years or so, but I guess it shows the transition Cincinnati has made during this time period also.

Most of the receivers that hold value in Bearcats fans’ hearts are from recent memory. When it comes to sports, we live in the present a lot, but honestly I can’t think of any receiver that anybody holds in high regards that didn’t play post 2000.

The Bearcats have three receivers tied for the lead with 204 receptions; those receivers are LaDarius Vann, Dominick Goodman and Marty Gilyard.

Washington is a mixture of speed and quickness, who makes his living in the slot and around #BearcatNation is known as Mr. 3rdDown. Maybe I’m making that up, but he makes a lot of big plays on third down.

Heading into his senior season, he has a chance to make history. So Clifton, make sure you keep an eye on the progress that Shaq makes. By the end of the 2015 season he could be the Bearcats all-time leader in receptions.
