This NBA off-season has been very entertaining to say the least. With the Jeremy Lin fiasco in New York, Team USA gearing up for a Gold Medal run, NBA Free Agency, and how could I forget about Dwight Howard.
Dwight Howard has been on ESPN and various other sports networks on day to day basis. The talks of Dwight Howard being traded is beyond annoying at this point. Howard signed one year contract in Orlando this past season and preached about how “loyal” he was to the organization. LeBron James went through a similar process during his last season as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. James knew that he would be a hot commodity on the free agent market. During the season there were rumors that LeBron would go to New York, Chicago, Brooklyn, or to stay with the hometown team Cleveland Cavaliers. James spurned everyone and took his talents to South Beach.
“The Decision” that ESPN helped support was a disaster despite the millions of dollars that were raised to the Boys & Girls Club. LeBron embarrassed himself, the city of Cleveland, and the Cavalier organization. LeBron should have handled his situation better, but by teaming up with the Miami Heat he achieved his goal of becoming a NBA Champion this past season. I am pretty sure today James would have went about it in a different manner.
On to Dwight Howard…….he does not have the amount of pressure that LeBron had placed on him during the last year of their contract season. Howard is not from the Orlando area so the expectations of being the hometown hero are not there. While LeBron was in the Cleveland it was becoming a Championship or Bust type of feeling for that franchise. In Orlando they are fine with Dwight getting rebound titles and making highlight dunks. As long as Howard is filling up the arena everything is okay in Orlando.
“The Indecision” has disturbed many current and former players in the NBA. NBA Hall of Famer and former Laker James Worthy recently expressed his feelings about Dwight Howard in an article in the Los Angeles Times.
“I like Andrew Bynum,” Worthy said recently at an appearance at Bell Gardens Intermediate School, sponsored by After School All-Stars Los Angeles and Metro PCS. “He’s young and just as good as Dwight right now. He’s getting better. Dwight … to me, he’s too much gab and too much talking. I’m old school. I want to see something done on the floor. He does all this media stuff, flip-flopping. You don’t get respect from veteran players when you do that kind of stuff. They just want you to play. They want to see what you can do out there.”
The fiasco that Dwight Howard is creating is becoming worse by the day. In my opinion this is by far worse than LeBron’s two hour television special. Hearts were broken around the world when it came to James, but at least he made a decision and stuck to it. With Howard it is about as inconsistent as a prostitutes alibi. On Monday he wants to stay in Orlando and on Wednesday he wants to play with the Lakers. We all know Dwight is not good at knowing the meaning of words. This is the same guy that thought a one year deal meant being loyal to an organization.
Like Worthy, I feel that Howard is doing way too much flip-flopping. Memo to Dwight: Man up and make a decision.
