The collapse of the Texas Rangers

At the beginning of the season the Texas Rangers were one of the odds on favorites to win the World Series in 2012. After Friday those plans have been placed on halt until next year.

Uncle Ron and the boys have seen steady improvement in his 6 year tender. Making the World Series the last two years, losing a heart breaking series to the Cards in 7 games after being up in the series 3-2, the Rangers were one of the most dangerous teams in baseball.

This year looked like they would be making the World Series for the 3rd time in the row up until a lil’ after the all-star break, that’s when injuries to the pitching staff and the rise of the dark horse A’s happened. The Rangers still had a big lead on the division but ended up blowing it to the A’s and ended up in the Wildcard slot. The wildcard game was played against the Orioles which they lost 5-1.

After losing to the O’s in the Wildcard game one HUGE question lingers over their management team. Will star outfielder Josh Hamilton be back in uniform next year? If the Rangers don’t pay the All Star/MVP somebody surely will. How many years do you give him? Do you let him walk? Even without Hamilton the Rangers have a potent lineup but if Hamilton isn’t back could this collapse be something this organization doesn’t recover from for years to come?
