Michael Vick has been in the headlines as of late due speculation of him owning a dog. I think the debate on if Michael Vick should be having a dog asinine. Vick paid his debt to society so he should be able to have interactions with a dog again. I don’t agree what Michael Vick has done in the past, but I think people should let it go.
Michael Vick is no longer on probation nor does he have six numbers attached to his name. Basically Vick is a free and can do what the hell he wants to do. I don’t see headlines about former NFL player Leonard Little buying a six pack at the local liquor store( Little was arrested in 1998 for Vehicular Manslaughter) . Vick is a quarterback, so that creates a different type of scrutiny, but I think it’s unfair that he is getting ridiculed for having a pet.
In a recent article on NFL.com Vick stated: “As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family. This is an opportunity to break the cycle. To that end, I will continue to honor my commitment to animal welfare and be an instrument of positive change.”
I think Vick is courageous for making it known that he is going about it in the right way of owning a dog this time around. At the end of the day Michael Vick the person is what will have an impact on society more than Michael Vick the football player. Vick is taking right steps as needed into rehabbing himself as a person, and a dog owner.
As you said he has paid his debt to society so what he owns a dog. As long as he doesn’t do what he was doing before leave the man along. Big Ben has a wife and nobody is even talking about that….
