A few days ago ESPN aired the 30 for 30 documentary “Benji” giving us insight to the life and death of Benji Wilson. Just before the start of his senior season Benji, the 1st high school player out of Chicago to be ranked number 1 in the country, was murdered after an altercation in 1984. Unfortunately, Benji’s story is still being reported in today’s news outlets throughout the country.
In 1997 Nike paid homage to Benji Wilson with this commercial and a message to the masses:
Remember, shoot over brothers, not at them
That commercial is dope. Violence as a whole is still strong in the inner cities across America hopefully this type of situation can shed light and maybe get some numbers down.
