When you lose your star player as a fan of the team I can understand you being a little angry, maybe pissed but that’s sports right? The situation with the Texas Rangers is a little different because there were many reports that the Rangers didn’t want to give Hamilton a contract over 3 years. If you are Hamilton what are you to do if the team you want to play for will only give you 3 years and you are in your prime?
If you are in Hamilton’s situation you have to factor a few things in to consideration because you 32 years of age:
- Will he get another shot at a big pay day?
- After winning the AL MVP in 2010 is a 3 year offer a slap in the face?
- Why take a 3 year deal when a team is offering 5?
I can understand not giving Hamilton a Pujols type deal where he gets 10 years, hell I can understand why not giving him a deal with anything over 6 years. We all know Hamilton has dealt with demons of his past and that’s the only reason he didn’t get a deal that was 7 years or more. So, when he signed a 5 year deal worth 125 million smackeroos I didn’t understand at all, all of the backlash Rangers fans were giving the star.
To all of the fans who are bashing him check yourself, what would you do if your employer was trying to short you and another company wanted to give you a better salary? Everyone that reads this post will take the money scream deuces (Chris Browns voice). When you are a free agent, you are a free agent the Rangers should’ve done a better job in protecting their prized asset.
