Deron Williams started off this NBA season slower than usual. From the firing of then head coach Avery Johnson to battling ankle and wrist injuries Williams did not play at his usual All-Star level. Since the All-Star break Williams has played at a very high level. Williams is averaging over 23.3 points on 46.7 percent shooting, including 47.1 percent from 3-point range in the past twelve games. Williams also lit up the Wizards for a 40 plus game that included 11 three pointers. Williams was once mentioned as arguably the best point guard in the game of basketball, and is looking like the player we saw in Utah. Since coming to the Nets from Utah things have not been so rosy. Playing under Avery Johnson didn’t appear to be the best thing in the world, and playing with inept players can also hurt a player as well. Watching D.Will play now his body language is a lot better, and he is playing at a higher level. I think P.J. Carlesimo should receive a ton of credit for the rejuvination of D. Will.Williams’s Nets have failed to make the playoffs the past two seasons, but they are on pace to make it this season. Williams has picked the right time to hit his stride and will look to continue his strong play in the NBA Playoffs. The Nets are getting better as a team and is 22-12 in their last 34 games boasting a better record than in state rival New York Knicks over that period. The Knicks have been on the decline, while Williams and the Nets have been creeping behind them in the Atlantic Division standings.
The Nets will continue to be better as a team with Williams playing the way that he is. It is good to see D. Will quiet the haters a bit. People were jumping the gun and stating that the Nets overpaid by re-signing Williams to a lucrative contract. When looking at it Williams has played injured for the past three seasons and has played a lot of basketball with the NBA regular season and with the Olympics. We all know that when Williams is healthy there are not many point guards that can handle him.
Williams and the Nets will not win the Eastern Conference, but will make some noise in the playoffs. Williams always saves his best ball for the spring, and will look to make a big splash after being out of the playoffs for the past two seasons.
If Williams keeps up his steady play,the Brooklyn Nets may go farther in the playoffs than the other team in New York.
