During a lot of situations when you get to bottom of the question people just want to know who won or lost. We don’t want to know if it was a tie or if the other party put up a good effort we just want to know was it a victory.
This question brings me to the New York Jets; we all know they have had a few disagreements with star cornerback Darrelle Revis. Revis was recently traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 1st round pick in this year’s draft who turned out to be Defensive Tackle Sheldon Richardson(with the 13th pick) and 3rd round pick in the 2014. With all of the holes the Jets had I don’t think Richardson was a need pick but who am I? I would think you would attack a position of need being that you traded away your best player, they drafted a DT in the 1st round two years draft and he (Mohammad Wilkerson)is a solid player. The team needs weapons on offense, a legit pass rusher and multiple other things that would take me hours to elaborate on.
What the Bucs received is a star cornerback that is coming off of a torn ACL but the kicker is that the Buccaneers made him the highest paid corner in NFL history which sounds all fine and dandy until you look over the meat of the contract, which shows that they have no guaranteed money throughout the deal. Yes, they are on the hook for 6 years 96 million dollars with none guaranteed. So honestly how much will Revis see of this deal? A solid 2 or 3 years if he is still playing at an elite level before it is reworked. Was there anybody at 13 that the Bucs felt would help their squad more than Revis? Hell no, that’s why they made this trade in a heartbeat. If Revis comes back playing better or at the same level it’s a flat-out steal, if he bombs out you cut him with very minimal obligation. This whole situation is a win-win for the Bucs in my opinion they have all of the spades at this table not much cutting going on unless they allow it.
Now back to the Jets, this train wreck of an organization could’ve kept their star playing in Green and White if they would’ve redone his deal. After seeing what the Bucs got him for why didn’t the Jets just offered a boat load of cash also and not guarantee it? Sounds like a no brainer, but of course these are the Jets the same team who gave Sanchez all of that money and now can’t get rid of him, yes I know it was a different GM but nonetheless it is the same organization.
So in my eyes the Jets lost this exchange because with their 2nd pick in the 1st round they didn’t fill a glaring need and they will have to bank on their 3rd round pick next year on being a star to say they made the right decision. Why wouldn’t you give Revis a fluff money contract? It makes sense unless you are in the Jets Front Office.
Welp, that’s all I have for today, who do you think won this trade? We want to hear your opinions.
