In Los Angeles everything seemed to be going good for the Clippers they had a better record than the Lakers, finally won the Pacific Division and seemed to be poised for a better playoff run than the Lakers who got swept by the Spurs in the First Round. Friday the pretty scene with palm trees and sunny weather turned into a nightmare as they lost in the first round to the Memphis Grizzlies after being up in the series 2-0.
With everyone and their momma talking about what Dwight Howard is going to do this summer the real question is what is CP3 going to do? Remember he is a free agent too. Nope, he didn’t sign an extension with the team last summer even though they have star forward Blake Griffin locked in until the summer of 2018. We know the Clips can pay more than any other team that would want his services but will that be enough to keep him in LA?
Lets highlight a few teams that have a legit shot to get CP3 this summer.
Los Angeles Clippers– His current team will have the best shot to resign him because of the ability to offer more because of the extra year they control. The Clips are coming off of their best regular season ever, have Griffin and other good supporting cast. Will he leave the money and palm trees?
Atlanta Hawks– The Hawks are a dark horse in this race because they have the money to be able to sign CP3 and D12. Horford is still under contract and Howard is from Atlanta. Besides being able to sign two max deals they can still shell out a little more dough for good role players because they won’t be over the cap if they pull a semi-heat move.
Dallas Mavericks– We all know that Cuban will do anything to win. Would a super owner and old man Dirk be enough to get CP3 in Dallas?
Indiana Pacers– The Pacers would have the space to max out CP3 if next years cap is around 70 million like everyone thinks. This team has Paul George who is a rising star and a few solid big men (West and Hibbert). The Pacers would be a solid choice because this team isn’t that far away.
There are other teams who will have the cash to try to sign him but they are not close enough to a championship to pull it off. Where do you think CP3 will land this summer?
