When something is good to you for so long, you (we) tend to take it for granted. Honestly everyone does it no matter who it is when something is as good as gold we just count on it as house money and go on with our day. Sometimes we need a situation good or bad to say hey thank you for being you and I (we) appreciate you.
In basketball the person we all take for granted is Tim Duncan. Everyone knows he’s going to be solid year in and year out even in his latter stages of his career; Duncan has been the model of consistency. Some of the reasons we take him for granted is because he isn’t flashy, doesn’t bring attention to himself in the media, we never see him in commercials (unless he has a lot in his local market?) and he gets haircuts with no hairlines. The last one is maybe tops on my list because why don’t you get edged up properly? But if you look at the team it must be a San Antonio thing.
Anyways back to the topic, Duncan has been so good throughout his career we just overlook him and if you compare his career to any big man in the history of the NBA his numbers are up to par or better than almost anyone you can name. In 16 years on the big stage Duncan has played his whole career in San Antonio, brought home 4 NBA Championships, been NBA Finals MVP 3xs, an All Star 14xs, MVP 2xs, All Star MVP 1x, All NBA Defensive 14xs (1st or 2nd team) and All NBA 14xs (1st, 2nd or 3rd team). Not to mention he is a career 20/10 guy. He just keeps cruising along.
Duncan and his Spurs are set to fight for their 5th title and win or lose we have to respect this man as an all time great. Whether it is the Pacers or Heat(The Heat as I’m watching a train live now), the Spurs will be no easy out, especially with Duncan manning the paint. Part of me wants to see Duncan get his 5th ring, part of me doesn’t, only because I don’t want him to tie Kobe in the ring category but I have nothing against Duncan, I wish more of the young big men played like him. The Spurs have been running through teams like wet tissue, think about it, they swept the Lakers and Grizzlies and beat down the Warriors in 6. Now they are resting waiting for the Finals to start-up on Thursday.
Will Tim Duncan get his 5th ring? It is highly possible for a player who has been 4 for 4 in the finals so far. Kobe while you are healing Timmy D is trying to tie you in your favorite category. We are watching pure greatness folks let’s stop taking it for granted.
