The redemption of Jamarcus Russell continues. Russell started his comeback a few months ago when he entered former NFL Quarterback Jeff Garcia’s quarterback school. Since then Russell has lost up to 60lbs, and has showed NFL teams that he was dedicated to dropping the extra weight.
There are several teams that could use Russell, but the baggage may be a bit much for some. The Chicago Bears is a veteran ball club that could help Russell on and off the field. It’s not a guarantee that Russell will get picked up, but in this pro day type of workout this is right up Russell’s alley.
The past few seasons the Bears starting quarterback Jay Cutler has suffered mid-season injuries that has put the Bears out of playoff contention. Knowing Cutler’s injury history it would be smart to have a decent back up quarterback on deck.
Though, Russell was a bust as the No.1 overall selection in the 2007 NFL Draft it is good to see him show that he has changed his work ethic and his level of maturity.
Russell’s strong arm has always wowed coaches, and it will likely wow Chicago Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman in his workout. All I am saying is that if guys like Ryan Leaf and David Carr got extra opportunities to prove their worth, why can’t JaMarcus Russell get his shot at redemption.
