The Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics made a blockbuster deal during the 2013 NBA Draft. Which the last few transactions the Celtics have been a part of we know they are in pure rebuild mode, which happens when your best players age it’s apart of the game.
The Trade:
Nets receive
F/C Kevin Garnett
F Paul Pierce
G Jason Terry
Celtics receive
Gerald Wallace
Kris Humphries
MarShon Brooks
Keith Bogans
Kris Joseph
1st round pick(s) from the 2014, 2016 and 2018 draft.
At a quick glance we know that the Nets are putting in their cards to win now, that happens when you have a new arena and a billion dollar owner. With KG, PP and JET the Nets will be a threat in the East as long as the team can stay healthy and first year head coach Jason Kidd can instill some heart into his troops.
The Celtics on other hand have gotten assets back via picks and players. Every trade they have made this off season the C’s have received a chance to be better in the future.
Out of the players they received back from the Nets the one I am most happy for is MarShon Brooks. Brooks had a nice rookie campaign with the Nets. With the move to Brooklyn in the wings the Nets wanted to bring big name players into the city and that left Brooks on the back burner. During his rookie season he showed a lot of promise during the lockout shortened season only to be finding himself on the pine most of his sophomore year in the league. Brooks can create his own shot, has good length and size and seemed to be on his way to become a semi star in the league.
Once Joe Johnson came to town, Brooks found himself buried on the Nets bench, which was something I personally didn’t understand, but who am I? He was dealing with trade rumors most of his 2nd year so even a blind man could see that Brooks wasn’t in the future plans of the Nets. When people like C.J. Watson and Keith Bogans are playing more significant minutes than you it has to do something to your physic.
This trade may be just want Brooks needs with nobody with star power in front of him at the shooting guard position in front of him it is up to him to show whoever will be the new C’s coach that he can return to the player he was his rookie year. Brooks has a solid upside, he’s proved he has potential to be a solid scorer maybe with more playing time and a team or coach that believes in him he could be the steal of this trade.
Hopefully he proves to the Celtics he’s worth the playing time at worse he will be a solid rotational player, if he pans out how I think he can he could be a marginal star at the 2 guard position, no matter what happens Brooks will finally get another shot to prove his worth and sometimes that’s all a person needs.
Don’t be shocked if Brooks makes some positive noise in bean town.
