Saturday marked the 2nd Annual Local Legends Shootout event and I was honored to be apart of the media who covered the event. To say the least it was a very top-notch event put on for the city of Dayton for people in and around the area they should be proud on this class event.
White Team= Daequan Cook, Norris Cook, Aaron Pogue, Cashmere Wright, Steve Wright, Mark Anderson, Nate Miller, Rhonda Price, Earl “DJ Bandcamp” Barron
Blue Team= Carl Edwards, Kenny Hayes, Josh Benson, Deonta Vaughn, Chris Wright, Yunta Holland, Daquan Walker, Brandie Hoskins, Dwight Anderson
The game consisted of two teams the White vs. the Blue team. In from the tip-off it was some very entertaining action. The White team headlined Daequan Cook, Steve Wright and Cashmere Wright, while the Blue team highlighted Chris Wright, Deonta Vaughn and Kenny Hayes.
The first half we saw a lot of high-flying by the Blue team, mainly by Wright, Hayes and Walker, those boys got bounce especially Chris Wright every time he took off the crowd got quiet. While the high-flying act was rolling it led the Blue team to a 72-59 halftime lead and it looked like it was going to be a long night for the White team.
During the 2nd half things changed as Daequan Cook kept saying during at the scorer’s table “It’s two half to a game” he kept repeating and man did he put on a shooting display for the crowd on his way to 55 points. I know it was an exhibition game but it was fun to watch. Him and Steve Wright made big buckets to flip the 13 point deficit to a 18 point win. Soon as Cook passed half court shots were firing and the crowd loved every second of it.
The White team went on to win 130-112.
A few extra notes:
Dwight Anderson was the older statesmen of the group and he was out there running like a 20-year-old that was pretty dope to see.
We had the former Bearcats (Cashmere Wright and Vaughn) matched up on each other a few times which was fun to watch.
Trotwood Madison Head Football Coach Maurice Douglass was honored at half time.
Besides the fun game there were ticket raffles where people won a big screen TV, a signed pair of Adidas by Daequan Cook, a signed pair of Nike’s by Norris Cole and other prizes. There were also free TV shirt giveaways throughout the event.
This event was great from beginning to end, next year if you can get to Dayton, Ohio to watch the game I recommend you do so it will be well worth your money.
