The “Bust” word is one of the worst words you can be called in professional sports but for every Peyton Manning aka Franchise QB you have a Ryan Leaf aka a bust. If you follow football at all you know the Manning/Leaf story so I won’t bore you with going over that again and if you don’t know the story my advice for you is to use google my friend.
The word “Bust” gets thrown around to players who were drafted high and don’t pan out if you get drafted late you really can’t be a bust they label somebody a wasted pick. With us only just now completing Week 2 in the NFL, I have a few players who are on my bust radar. Nobody can do anything to change my mind, even if they magically find a way to pan out.
The List:
-
Blaine Gabbert, Jacksonville Jaguars- The Jags drafted him with the 10th pick in 2011. The writing is on the wall for Blaine, I hear the #TankForTeddyCampaign is in full effect. I never was a big fan of Gabbert coming out of Missouri and he seems to not have many fans with the Jacksonville organization.
-
Christian Ponder, Minnesota Vikings- Like the Jags the Vikes took Ponder with the 12th pick of the same draft. Everyone saw this was a Mr. Fantastic reach and a few years later, the jury is still out on a guy who hasn’t thrown for at least 3,000 yards in a season yet. The Vikings did make the playoffs last year but it was in spite of Ponder, I mean AP had one of the best years for a running back we have every seen. Yeah he’s on the list.
-
Jake Locker, Tennessee Titans- Locker was taken 8th in the same draft that landed Gabbert and Ponder. Locker might have been the most overrated of the bunch. His Titans are 2-1 but the jury is still out for the dual threat Locker. He is very inaccurate at times and has yet to put up solid passing numbers nothing reaching over 2,200 yards yet. Chris Johnson is baring the pressure of the lack of relief that Locker is proving.
These are the three we are singling out, Josh Freeman is on honorable mention as well as Brandon Weeden. Let us know how you feel about the players we picked who are on the road to Ryan Leafville. If these players salvage their careers I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong.
