Metta World Peace, Bison Dele ( Word to JT), and Muhammad Ali all had name changes during their professional careers. Well, it is safe to say that you can add Donte’ Whitner to that list.
The Pro Bowl Safety Donte Whitner of the San Francisco 49ers has been fed up with the NFL as of late. This season is only 4 weeks in, and Whitner has been fined this season. Whitner was recently fined $21,000 for a hit against the St. Louis Rams Chris Givens. Whitner, who is known to be a big hitter, and does so the appropriate way wants to implement a name change to make a standpoint for his style of play.
Whitner plans to drop the W from his name, and to go by Hitner. Whether you call him Donte Whitner or Donte Hitner be expected to have your head knocked off if you come across the middle of the field.
I don’t know how long Whitner will go by his new name, but it comes to show that he is pretty serious about making his point to Roger Goodell & Co. Some may agree with the name change, and some may think its absurd, but hey it’s his name. If Whitner wants to stand up for his peers in his own way let him do so.
