For those that don’t know Lenny Cooke was one of the most highly touted basketball prospects in the early 2000’s. For a lot of scouts he was ranked ahead LeBron James when they were in High School. A guy some have never heard about was talked about in the same sentence as King James, Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudamire. The only difference is unlike the 3 I highlighted, Cooke never got to reach his goal of the NBA. It is a reminder that if you don’t have the right people in your corner to humble you and not take advantage of your stardom that even with all the talent in the world, your dreams can still fall short.
Lenny Cooke’s documentary was filmed by producers Josh and Benny Safdie and will be in select theatres soon. The people in the Cincinnati Area will be lucky enough to be a part of the select few on December 18, 2013. Thanks to The Local Legends Shootout and Bigger Than Sneakers we will have a showing at Cinemark Oakley at 7:30 pm on December 18, 2013.
Proceeds will help next year’s Local Legend game in August of 2014.
