49ers CB Tramaine Brock cashes in on opportunity

St. Louis Rams v San Francisco 49ersMe and my homie Ron are both 49ers fans and have always been Brock supporters. We both would have conversations asking why Brock didn’t get more clock in the 49ers crowded secondary. During the last two seasons when Brock got an opportunity to play he showed promise. So when the secondary started to get hit by the injury bug I was excited to see what Brock would do with his increased role.

Before the season Brock was buried behind Chris Culliver, who tore his ACL during the off season and former Pro Bowler Nnamdi Asomugha who was brought in to resurrect his career.  With Culliver getting hurt and Nnamdi hitting the injured stick also it left Brock in the 3rd corner role aka the nickel back and boy did this man take the ball and literally run with it.

Against the Texans he helped sink Matt Schaub’s battleship as he pick-sixed him on the first play of the game. He went on to have two picks that game and the loss of Nnamdi started to look like a positive gain as each play went on.

He is a testament that hard work pays off. The 49ers extended him to a 4 year deal worth $16 million with $7 million guaranteed. Not bad for a guy who was undrafted out of Belhaven. It’s great seeing people who work hard be rewarded.

If the injuries to Culliver and Nnamdi didn’t happen who knows if Brock would’ve received this amount of cash. Congrats to him for taking advantage of his opportunity and to the guys on the mend, get well soon.
