This NFL season Peyton Manning had a record breaking season after beating the single season record for yards and touchdowns by a quarterback. Peyton has accomplished everything you can imagine, and is arguably the best quarterback that the NFL has ever seen. Nobody can take away Manning’s accomplishments, but there is a dark cloud over him.
So called sports experts complain that Manning has only one Super Bowl victory. All-Time greats such as Joe Montana, Tom Brady, and John Elway all have more than one championship on their resume. Other all-time greats such as Steve Young and Brett Favre have one championship just like Manning. A champion is a champion in my eyes, but to some it’s not enough.
The problem is that Manning sets the bar so high during the regular season he sets himself up for failure. I think that it’s ironic that Manning’s best regular seasons have ended in postseason disappointment. I am a huge Manning fan, but I feel that he needs to win one more to quiet the doubters. It’s not fair to say that, but that is often said for a lot of the all-time greats. I have a feeling that this season may have the same ring like the past few seasons.
With Manning crushing the competition in the regular season it feels like we are in line for the playoff meltdown that has happen in Manning’s last three postseason appearances. Manning faces the San Diego Chargers this weekend, and this is a team that has given Manning trouble in the present and past.
This Chargers team is capable of pulling off the upset, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it. As a fan I want to see Manning in the Super Bowl, but if I were a betting man I wouldn’t place a wager on it. Sometimes it’s best to expect the worse when things are going so well for Manning. All I am saying is that this is just a warning, and if I am a Broncos or Peyton Manning fan I would proceed with caution, and prepare for a potential heart breaking moment starting No.18.
