My Apology to Anthony Davis

When Anthony Davis came out of Kentucky I can admit and say that I wasn’t drinking the Kool-Aid. While at UK I saw Davis being Marcus Camby 2.0 and not the player that he is becoming today. Being Marcus Camby 2.0 is not bad at all, but it seems like Davis is the complete package as a NBA player.

As a rookie Davis’s numbers did not jump off the board averaging 13.5 ppg to go along with 8.2 rebounds. At one point Davis’s unibrow was more popular than his game on the court. People often forget that it takes time to adjust from College to the NBA. Though, Davis was selected as the No.1 overall selection in the 2012 NBA Draft many people thought he failed to live to the hype right from jump. After Damian Lillard won the Rookie of the Year Award it appeared that Davis had taken a step back.

In reality Davis played great ball last season, but with more minutes this season he is putting on his whole display of talents. This season Davis is averaging 19pts/10rebs/3blks with a PER of 26.57. Though, the Pelicans are not in playoff contention the future seems to be bright in New Orleans.

People forget that Davis is only 20 years old, and he is already ahead of the game in many aspects. It’s safe to say that I ditched the Marcus Camby 2.0 talk, but I will say that Davis reminds me of a young Kevin Garnett. Davis has the ability to rebound, play defense, and he also has the ability to put the ball in the basket. The only thing Davis is missing is the leadership and intangibles, but that will come in due time.

It will be fun to see Anthony Davis mature over his career, and basketball fans are in for a real treat.

Oh yeah, I’m sorry Anthony Davis I was wrong about you!
