This week the Philadelphia Eagles brass decided to write a few big checks to a few of their current players. They are spending like the Atlanta Braves right now. Jason Peters, Jason Kelce and Riley Cooper all got new deals this week.
Wednesday, the Eagles extended left tackle Jason Peters. Peters had one year left at $10 million on his current deal and was extended 4-years $41.3 million with $19.55 million guaranteed. Peters is one of the best left tackles in the game. At the age of 32, I ain’t mad at him getting paid one more time.
Thursday afternoon they took care of receiver Riley Cooper with a 5-year $25 million deal with $10 million guaranteed. Cooper, famous for his concert rant last summer, had a good year filling in for injured receiver Jeremy Maclin. Cooper had 47 catches for 835 yards and 8 touchdowns. Cooper was due to become a free agent this off season, but the Eagles now have him locked in for the immediate future.
Thursday the Eagles also took care of UC Alum Jason Kelce. They gave the starting center a 6-year $37.5 million extension with $13 million guaranteed. Kelce has been a top center since entering in the league in 2011. This move helps keep the line stabilized. The center and left tackle are locked in for the next few years and now they can concentrate on other positions of need.
