Maclin banking on himself this year

JeremyMaclinReceiver Jeremy Maclin signed a one year deal with the potential to get $6 million, guaranteed $3.5 million. The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t let Maclin hit free agency as most thought would be the case.

Maclin who was their “1B” receiver coming into the 2013 season tore his ACL  early in training camp and it caused him to miss the whole season. While Maclin was on the mend, Riley “insert a nickname” Cooper took advantage of opportunities available. Cooper parlayed the extra opportunities into a five-year deal. After signing that deal and currently having DeSean Jackson under contract, I thought Maclin would be on the out for the Eagles. I think a lot of general managers thought the same as me, as I’m pretty sure they were lined up to offer Maclin some big money.

In 2012, Maclin had 69 catches, 857 yards and 7 touchdowns for the Eagles. Maclin has been a good receiver since coming out of Missouri in ’09. I expected Maclin to have a huge year in Chip Kelly’s offense, but the injury stalled that plan out.

In 2014, Maclin is banking on returning back to his old self and putting up solid numbers. In Chip’s offense he may be able to have a career year if given enough opportunities.

With teams dying for a good receivers, I think because the market was going to low ball him because of the 2013 injury he’s banking on himself ballin’ during the ’14 season and getting paid in the spring of ’15.

I hope it works out for Maclin, like it did for Joe Flacco and others. Throw him the ball Foles help Maclin out.
