During my life and times it is a known fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers can be tight with their wallet. Which why this week seeing the headlines showcasing center Maurkice Pouncey receiving a nice payday caused me to do a double take. Don’t get me wrong the Steelers normally take care of their own, but it has to be at the Steelers price. Which most well run organization do when it comes to handing out new contracts.
Pouncey is now the highest paid center in the NFL. He signed a five year $44 million deal with a $13 million signing bonus; the deal will take effect in 2015 because he has a year left on his rookie deal. The one thing absent from this deal is guaranteed money. So let’s pray for a few solid years of health for Mr. Pouncey because with no guaranteed dollars means any year they can cut bait on the young center.
He will probably see most of his money, but be smart on how you spend sir who knows what the future holds. The Steelers are the kings of not giving a lot of guaranteed money. That’s great for the team and bad for the players, but anyways Pouncey let me hold a dollar or two.
