Patrick Peterson’s new contract one ups Richard Sherman’s

Wednesday Patrick Peterson signed a five year $70 million deal with $48 million guaranteed to stay with the Arizona Cardinals and to become the highest paid cornerback in the NFL at the same damn time.

Cardinals Camp FootballDuring downtime everybody likes to argue who is the best corner in the NFL. When Richard Sherman signed his four year $57 million deal with $40 million guaranteed there were a lot of grumblings saying how much would Peterson get in return.  They both have used twitter to voice to the masses who they thought was the best corner. Sherman has two of the best safeties’ in football behind him, plays a cover 3 and normally doesn’t follow the best receiver around. Peterson normally follows the best receiver around and plays more man to man, which a lot of people covet when clarifying who is the best corner.

Peterson has made the pro bowl 3xs and all pro twice, while Sherman has made the pro bowl once and all pro twice. Sherman leads with 20 interceptions to Peterson’s 12. They both have been in the NFL for three years.

Peterson received more guaranteed money, but also an extra year to his contract so in the grand scheme of things barring injury Sherman has to a chance to sign a new sooner which will net him more cash. At the end of the day Peterson’s final check (maybe because it’s football) has been signed for a higher dollar amount than Sherman so his bank account wins this battle.

The great thing about this beef is they both play in the same division so they will see each other twice a year at least.
