Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles took the league by storm last season as he was inserted into the starting lineup after replacing an injured Michael Vick. Foles had a stellar season last year throwing 27 touchdowns to only 2 interceptions. Foles led the Eagles to their first playoff birth since 2010, and he gave the Eagles stability at the quarterback position, which was something they lacked due to multiple injuries to Vick over the past few years.
Foles lost his favorite target in DeSean Jackson, but Jeremy Maclin returns from injury. Maclin is not on the same level as Jackson, but he is a good player when healthy. Under Chip Kelly the Eagles offense was very potent last season, and they will look to make that a trend. Many feel that Foles can’t keep up the strong play, but I disagree.
Foles has a safety blanket in LeSean McCoy in the backfield, and he has a new weapon in Darren Sproles. Even dating back to the days in Oregon –Chip Kelly’s offense is centered around the running game. With McCoy and Sproles in the backfield it will give Foles room to operate all over the field. Kelly’s offense isn’t overly dependent on wide receivers, but it does require everyone to hold some accountability.
I know for a fact we will not see another 27 touchdowns to 2 interceptions season, but I believe that Foles will continue to improve as a quarterback.
Foles has only started 16 games in his short career, but during that time he has improved at a steady rate. Foles will look to silence doubters as he looks to prove that he isn’t the Milli Vanilli of the NFL. The jury is still out on Foles, and it will be interesting to see how he plays with pressure on his shoulders. If he rises to the occasion don’t be surprised I think No.9 will be a big-time player for years to come.
