R&R Promotions to present Friday Night Fights: ‘Put Down the Guns, Pick Up the Gloves’ Friday October 10 at the Bank of Kentucky Center on the Campus of NKU
CINCINNATI (Sept. 17, 2014) – Ohio’s top boxing promoter R&R Promotions is partnering with “Put Down the Guns, Pick Up the Gloves,” an anti-violence forum to present Friday Night Fights at the Bank of Kentucky Center on the Campus of NKU for what will be another action-packed boxing event with a portion of the proceeds going to the O.E. Boxing Club.
R&R Promotions hopes to play an active role in curbing violence in greater Cincinnati through promoting positive outlets such as boxing for the youth to get involved in.
“I’ve been involved in the sport of boxing for many years now and have personally witnessed many young men turn their lives around through the sport of boxing,” said R&R Promotions CEO Andrew Williams. “This event is just a small start to something we’re hoping can become a continued involvement within the community.”
One such person who has found a safe haven in professional prizefighting is three-time world champion Adrien Broner. Broner will be offering his support by donating 1,000 tickets to local boxing gyms and youth programs.
In the main event, lightweight contender Brandon Bennett will be appearing in a 10-round bout. Bennett, who has a record of 17-1 (7 knockouts), is one of the top fighters in the queen city. This fight will be the first of 2014 for Bennett, the former holder of the WBC United States super featherweight title.
Welterweight William Jackson (12-2-2, 5 KOs) and heavyweight David Long (12-4-2, 8 KOs), two Cincinnati mainstays, will also be appearing on the undercard in six-round bouts. Additionally, decorated amateur Anthony Sims of Indianapolis will be fighting in his third pro bout. Sims is currently one of the top light heavyweight prospects in the country.

About “Put Down the Guns, Pick Up the Gloves”
“Put Down the Guns, Pick Up the Gloves” is an anti-violence campaign established in 2009 with a mission of curbing violence in the city of Cincinnati, where the crime rate is high and the rates of gang and homicide violence continues to rise. The goal of “Put Down the Guns, Pick Up the Gloves” is to take firearms and other weapons out the hands of youth and encourage them to become involved in more positive activities that provide more productive ways to occupy their time. With the help of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, and other county and community organizations “Put Down the Guns, Pick Up the Gloves” hopes to develop a unified effort to stop violence in the community.
