TFON recap on Friday Night Fights

Heavyweights Danny Calhoun and Gary Kelley met for a tussle of the big boys for 4 rounds. Punch House’s own Danny Calhoun fought the biggest man I’ve ever seen in the ring, Kelly was an easy 350 lbs, a la Butterbean. Calhoun was able to use his speed and ability to win an easy decision. Kelley was a big man who is always one shot away from stealing a victory nonetheless Calhoun is now 5-0.

Welterweights William “Action” Jackson and Gilbert “Gordo” Venegas faced off on the cards first title bout. The USNBC Silver title was on the line. This bout was the closes contested of the night. Venegas did his best to cut the ring off and try to keep the fight on the ropes. While going forward Venegas was able to keep the champion in compromising positions with an array of combinations. Jackson was able to use his speed and quickness to outpoint Venegas and keep his title with an unanimous decision after 6 rounds. Jackson’s record pushed to 13-2-1.

The Co-Main event featured Light Welterweights Ricardo “Slick Rick” Williams, Jr and Guillermo Sanchez. This bout marked the return of “Slick Rick” to the Cincinnati area and the first time he was in the ring since December 2012. “Slick Rick” put on for the hometown crowd as he outclassed Sanchez. Williams did what he wanted in the ring and got Sanchez out of there in the 4th rd via KO. Williams looked good in the ring, folks I just wanted y’all to know.

The Main Event featured Lightweights Brandon “Untouchable” Bennett and Tyrone “Fist of Fury” Harris.  The main event also was a title bout and the 2nd of the night. Bennett put his WBC USA title on the line versus Harris. Bennett outboxed Harris, jabbed, hooked and used a lot of combinations. Harris tried to rough the fight up and for a while Bennett followed suit, but the latter rounds Bennett kept fighting his fight and got the dub in a 8 round decision. Bennett’s record moved to 18-1.

This was a great event, I’m happy The Front Office News was able to be apart of it.
