October 30, 2014 (CINCINNATI) — Live boxing returns to Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati on Friday, Nov. 7 for another action-packed night of boxing presented by Ohio’s largest boxing promoter, R&R Promotions.
The Friday Night Fights event will feature boxers William Jackson, Ricardo Williams, DeVonte Allen, Donald Anderson and Danny Calhoun.
“We are very excited to return to Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati to present another great night of boxing action,” said R&R Promotions CEO Andrew Williams. “After two sold out events, this is one fight night you don’t want to miss.”
Tickets are priced at $35, $65 and $100 and are on sale now at all Ticketmaster locations, ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets can also be purchased at the Hard to Knock Shoppe in Cincinnati and at the gift shop at Horseshoe Cincinnati.
The headliner of the event is William Jackson, 25, who is currently riding a three-fight win streak since a victory over Chris Rudd last year that brought him national recognition. Most recently, Jackson earned a decision over tough veteran Gilbert Venegas on Oct. 10. Jackson has a record of 13-2-1, including five knockouts (KOs).
After a two-year hiatus, Ricardo Williams will be appearing in the second fight of a comeback attempt for a world championship. Williams, who was on the 2000 U.S. Olympic Boxing team, won a silver medal in the light welterweight division. He was one of the top rated amateurs in the world before turning pro in 2001. In an October fight, Williams gained a fourth-round knockout and is looking to keep the momentum going at 140 pounds. Williams has a record of 22-3 (12 KOs).
DeVonte Allen will be fighting in his inaugural eight-round fight, making this bout the most important of his career. Hailing from Cincinnati, Allen, 25, is 6-2-1 (five KOs).
A similar story can be found in Columbus fighter Donald Anderson. The light heavyweight will fight in his first eight-rounder. Anderson, who is 6-0 with three KOs, is coming off of a first-round knockout last month.
Fans might recognize Danny Calhoun for his stint as a football player with the University of Cincinnati. He has made the successful transition into prizefighting earning a 4-0 record with three knockouts. Now residing in Cincinnati, Calhoun also operates his own gym called The Punch House.
Brandon Bennett, one of the region’s top fighters, will also be appearing on the card in an eight-round fight. Bennett earned a career-best victory over Tyrone Harris in his most recent bout Oct. 10. The 26-year-old southpaw who fights with a slick style is continuing his rise through the 135-pound division. He has a record of 18-1, including seven KOs.
Also appearing on the card is knockout artist David Long, Mel Crossty, Aaron Hollis and Jayvon Garnett.
The event is sponsored by CBTS, LaRosa’s Pizza, Radio One and TruStaff, and is being sanctioned by the Ohio Athletic Commission, Executive Director Bernie Profato. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first bell to ring at 7 p.m. Must be 21 or older to attend. Bout card is subject to change.
