With both conference champions crowned, the picture has became more clear of who the modern day GOAT QB is. In part 1 I gave my nominees for the best AFC QB. To make it clear I rank based on regular season and postseason play, stats, hardware and most of all, the ability to get the job done. It is a list that rates who I would choose in the year 2015 to start a franchise with. As stated before the “Modern Day” best. The following are my NFC options.
First we will start with the two signal callers who squared off championship weekend up in Seattle, Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Coming into the marquee matchup, Wilson held the highest QB rating ever in the postseason. That stat was quickly erased as he threw 4 picks and was under 10 QBR. Throwing under 100 yards and completing less than 10 passes, Wilson ran into a brick wall early and often. Taking in his own Td score after his receivers continuously tipped passes to the opposing team, it came down to an onside kick with 2:00 remaining. Shocking the world the Hawks recovered and Wilson embarked on what should be called the defining moment in his career. Trailing by 5 and the shot at the Lombardi looming heavily, Wilson began the drive with an outstanding boot leg run. Completing two first downs, Wilson handed off to Beastmode who ran it in and capped off an unbelievable 4th quarter comeback. Moving into overtime they won the coin toss and ultimately the game. What started off as a complete bust, ended off as a historic trip to their second straight Super Bowl. Wilson showed he would never give up, proved to everyone his heart and determination rule him. Leading his team and owning his mistakes puts him high on my ranking list. With no deep threats, no real big name WRs, to win another ring, he could take top spot for me.
