Super Bowl XLIX: Russell Wilson has a chance for history

Last year when Russell Wilson led his Seahawks in a romp of the Denver Broncos he placed himself in rare air. What air might that be? Wilson was the second starting African American quarterback to win a Super Bowl. The first was the great Doug Williams who led the Washington Redskins to a Super Bowl back when I was a young buck.

Wilson had led his Seahawks back to the big game and has a chance to be the first African American to win two Super Bowls and the kicker is they would be back to back. It would kill the African American quarterbacks can’t win the big game theory wouldn’t it? Others have made it noting Donovan McNabb, Steve McNair and Colin Kaepernick, but they didn’t walk away with the title (sorry if I left anybody else off the list, I’m not going to Google search).

Right now it stands that the Seahawks are about to pay Wilson top dollar in the spring and if he can win on Sunday how much of a raise will he receive in guaranteed money? He already has one, but two will make his agent that much happier at the negotiating table.

Can Wilson make history? We all will see on Sunday!
