So if you don’t know, Dez Bryant is a free agent this off season and if you watched any football in the last three years you know Dez is one of the top tier receivers, hell after this season you can argue he’s the best, I said argue so don’t come for me, but if you want to meet me in the comment section.
There are rumors going around that the Cowboys will just franchise tag their star receiver which is a fully guaranteed deal and secures him a salary that’s an average of the top 5 receivers. That’s cool, but everyone wants some type of long term security especially in football, the NFL damn near means “Not For Long”. The franchise tag could buy the Cowboys time until mid-summer to sign Dez to a long term deal, which should be the route they should take if they tag him. If they don’t use the franchise tag as a bridge for a long term deal it could make Dez more of a distraction throughout the year and the Cowboys need him to be focused on the field to be a threat in the NFC.
Last year Bryant caught 88 passes for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns. Through the last 3 years Bryant has the averages of: 91 receptions, 1,312 yards and 13.7 touchdowns (I’ll round up and give him 14). Those are impressive numbers for anybody, but with the aggression and physical ability he plays with if the Cowboys keep playing around it will be a long line of teams waiting to pull a brinks truck up to his house.
The dilemma that hurts the Cowboys is Bryant and DeMarco Murray are both free agents and coming off monster years, Jerry must maneuver a way to keep both, but if he has to make a choice he needs to give Dez the money because he can draft a plug in and play running back. Could you imagine Todd Gurley or Melvin Gordon behind that offensive line with Romo and Dez on the wing? Jerry Jones make your next move your best move and give Dez the loot you will be happy at the end.
Do you see a 4 or 5 year deal in Dez’s future? He better before he throws up the piece sign besides the X.
