Ted Ginn Jr. is expected to sign a two-year deal with the Carolina Panthers when the free agency period officially begins Tuesday at 4:01PM. Just two seasons ago, Ginn had his best season as a pro playing with the Panthers. He totaled five receiving touchdowns as well as having a career high yards per catch average with 15.4. With Ginn back in the fold it will give the Panthers another playmaker on the offensive side of the ball as well as a quality return man. It’s great to see Ginn back with the Carolina, because it has been the only team that used his skill set in the appropriate manner.
Last season in Arizona, Ginn was used in a limited role, due to the Cardinals being deep at the wide receiver position, but in Carolina, Ginn is expected to have a big role as the No.3 wide receiver as he looks to rekindle the great chemistry he had with Cam Newton in his lone season with the team. The Carolina Panthers won the NFC South last season, and it was the first time in the history of the division that the same team won it in back-to-back seasons.
The Panthers have a great defense, and they have to continue to add pieces to the offense to make them more of a complete team as they were in the 2013 season. The arrival of Ginn will not garner many headlines, but this is a huge acquisition to team up with the likes of Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Olsen, Philly Brown, Jonathan Stewart, and of course Cam Newton. Congrats to Ginn on his second time around in Carolina, let’s hope it’s as good as the first one.
