Don’t Count Out the San Antonio Spurs to Win the Western Conference

The NBA Season is a marathon, and it’s all about getting hot at the right time. Teams such as the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks have maintained their dominance all season, but there is a team in the Western Conference that is peaking at the right time. That team is the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs have had an up and down season, and they currently sit in sixth place in the Western Conference playoff race. The defending champs are rounding into shape, and they are getting healthy to make yet another title run.

Tony Parker is looking like the Tony Parker of old, Kawhi Leonard is regaining his health and confidence, and Tim Duncan is just being his usual capable self. Coach Greg Popovich always manages his team well for the long haul of the season, and it is paying off as they are in the perfect position to make noise in the playoffs. It is likely that the Spurs will remain as the 6th seed, and they will likely face the Houston Rockets in the first round as they jockey for the third seed with a handful of games left to play.

Over their last 10 games, the Spurs are 7-3, and during that run they’ve defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Dallas Mavericks by an average margin of 15 points or more. The aforementioned teams will be formidable foes in the Western Conference playoffs that will try their best to avoid the defending champs. Teams are aware that regardless of seeding, the Spurs are the most dangerous team in their conference based on what they bring to the table in the playoffs.

The Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, and Golden State Warriors have been at the top of the mountain for majority of the season in the West, but it’s all about who closes out the strongest at the end. The Spurs have a roster built to win championships, and with the playoffs nearing as the Spurs continue to peak, don’t count out the Spurs making it out the Western Conference.
