The biggest fight of our era was May 2nd between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. The fight that should’ve happened years ago was finally happening and everyone was happy. Until the fight came, after the 6th round it was just a normal Floyd show where he out boxed the living life out of Manny. For those that were angry thought Manny would put a better effort, but just like the other 47 fighters he didn’t have an answer to Mayweather’s test. Because the world was duped by Manny, everyone is pissed at Floyd and we all know his style isn’t exciting if you are looking for a knockout, Stevie Wonder knows that. Manny and his injured shoulder made a cash grab and the rest is history, but because of the fight of our era a fight for the people was pushed back a week. That fight, “Saul” Canelo Alvarez vs James Kirkland.
Kirkland and Canelo are two big punchers, but Kirkland was no match for Canelo as he dropped him three times within three rounds and scoring a thunderous knockout. I personally didn’t think Kirkland was going to get up. This match was a good ole classic knockout drag out where both fighters were in your face. Kirkland kept his hands too low on a consistent basis and Canelo made him pay dearly for it.
Canelo/Kirkland wasn’t the fight of the decade, but it damn sure might’ve been the fight of the year. This fight was action packed and for those that think boxing is dead needs to just do some research. If you expected more from Mayweather/Pacquiao that’s kind of your fault don’t blame Floyd, but if you did your research you checked out Canelo/Kirkland. Both of these fights provided the best of both worlds. It’s good to see a technical match and it’s great to see a slugfest.
Check out the action from Canelo/Kirkland.
