Right now everybody has all eyes on the NBA Finals so other NBA news takes a back seat and rightfully so. Thursday it was reports that the Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons made a three player deal.
Trade Details:
Detroit Pistons get:
F Ersan Ilyasova
Milwaukee Bucks get:
G/F Caron Butler
F Shawne Williams
This deal gives Stan Van Gundy a stretch four who can hit threes at a positive rate. From his time in Orlando we all know Van Gundy likes to four on the wing and one in the post. Ilyasova shot 38.9% from three point land in the 2014-15 season so I’m pretty sure he will have a shot to shoot a lot in Detroit.
For the Bucks this was a salary dump move being that Ilyasova was on the books for two more years. Not checking Butler and Williams deals I’m pretty sure they both aren’t on the books after the 2015-16 season, giving the Bucks a lot of financial freedom with these two players. Butler is on the tail end of his career, but could be a positive leader in the young Bucks locker room if he’s kept around. Williams is a three point shooting specialist that would help in spot minutes if he’s kept around. Personally I don’t see either player staying around long, because of the Bucks youth movement.
Overall this deal gave the Pistons flexibility if Greg Monroe leaves via free agency this off season.
