The guy nicked named “Born Ready” wasn’t so ready last season when suiting up for the Charotte Hornets. Lance Stephenson’s stint in Charlotte was very forgettable and short lived. After Stephenson signed lucrative deal last summer it was expected that the trio of Kemba Walker, Al Jefferson, and Lance Stephenson could make some noise in the East. Things didn’t go as planned and the Hornets regressed as a team. Stephenson failed to live up to the hype, which led to him being on the trading block for most of the season. A team finally called about acquiring the services of Lance Stephenson, and that team is the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers gave up Matt Barnes and Spencer Hawes for Stephenson.
Though, Stephenson had a bad year he is still a very raw and talented player. Just two seasons ago, Stephenson led the NBA in triple-doubles as a member of the Indiana Pacers. With Stephenson playing with a team like the Clippers is a perfect fit for him, because he is surrounded by veterans and a hall of fame head coach in Doc Rivers. Rivers is known to be a master motivator, and I feel that Stephenson can get his career back on track.
The acquisition of Stephenson helps the Clippers out in man ways. Stephenson is a versatile player that can guard and play three positions. Stephenson, can play a vital role as a starter or as a player coming off the bench. I think the Clippers are still missing out on a quality small forward and a backup point guard, but I feel that Stephenson can help the team where there are glaring holes.
Everyone knows that with a player with the attitude like Stephenson things can get a bit eerie, but it can change when surrounded by leadership. Who would have thought J.R. Smith would have resurrected his career in Cleveland, but that’s what happens when you are playing with a quality leader. Chris Paul is one of the best leaders in the NBA, and Stephenson will get a chance to learn professionalism from one of the best in the game. I’m sure there will be times when CP3 will want to snap on Stephenson, but in the long run it could be helpful for the team. Everyone knows that Stephenson is a talented player, but he needs to be in an environment around veteran laden players.
All in all I feel that Clippers made a low-risk– high-reward move in trading for Stephenson, and as long as he doesn’t make videos like this (see below) I think he will be just fine under Doc Rivers and Chris Paul in L.A.
Love this trade for the Clippers. In my opinion they’re not done. I think either Redick or Crawford are expendable, with Lance coming off the bench. Bad move for the Hornets. They get “glue guys” who aren’t difference makers. They’ll continue to tread water.
Not a bad move for the Hornets..they are going to payout Barnes save money and. Only have Hawes.. which fits their team..If Lance plays right it will be a very nice move for the Clips. .
