The Lakers strike out on Aldridge land Hibbert and Williams

Since the NBA vetoed the Chris Paul trade the Lakers haven’t been able to get right via free agency or trade. First they failed to resign Dwight Howard, then next summer they didn’t land Carmelo Anthony and this year they didn’t get LaMarcus Aldridge. I didn’t get Jimmy Butler also, but even if they did sign him the Bulls would’ve matched so scrap that theory.

With the Lakers striking out like Adam Dunn in his hay day the made a few move to salvage their off-season. They used their cap space to trade for Roy Hibbert, who is on the last year of his deal that pays him $15.5 million with a 15% trade kicker. I know the Pacers are super happy to get hid of that contract. While I’m not a big Hibbert fan with all of the good bigs off the board, this is a good move to help a terrible defense. Hibbert on offense is blah, but we was acquired to help out the horrid defense. This move still allows flexibility for next summer.

Sunday afternoon LA were able to land combo guard Lou “two girlfriends” Williams to a three year $21 million deal. Last years sixth man of the year is a scoring specialist. With the league going small Williams will be a welcomed addition to the Lakers backcourt.

These moves don’t make you do a backflip if you were expecting a star to come into the fold, but it shows that Mitch and the Young Buss’ are trying to build on the future of this team.
