When free agency started Greg Monroe was fallback guy number one If you couldn’t land Kevin Love or LaMarcus Aldridge. When Monroe took the one year restricted deal last year we all saw the writing on the wall and the Pistons saw it also.
With the Lakers and Knicks being rumored to every big name in free agency once the smoke settled everyone thought Monroe would be one of the main coast teams. Monroe was the main target for the Knicks, but we learned that Monroe picked the Bucks. With Aldridge landing in San Antonio, Love staying in Cleveland before free agency started we all thought he would choose the bright lights. Monroe didn’t choose the bright lights he chose a team who seem to be on the rise.
With Jabari Parker, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton and Michael Carter-Williams already in the fold the Bucks are a young team on the rise.
Monroe signed a three year $50 million deal to stay in the Midwest. This is a win for middle market teams and truly shows that the playing ground is starting to get even for all teams if you spend the money.
Monroe is one of the best offensive big men in the league, but on defense he may be one of the worst. The Bucks are strong defensively so it may hide his weakness and they defiantly need him on offense. I want to see how they gel within the next 2-3 years.
